Ahh. The missing text alternative (ALT text).

This is a level A issue, which mean it is a minimum requirement, but so many websites fail on this SC alone. And remember that failing one SC means your website does not conform.

Without a text alternative, a screen has nothing to announce to the user which means the image is completely invisible to that user.

You may think that’s fine, but that image may be your logo. What if that image is showing your new clothing range or the special features of your new product.

How do you add a text alternative

Simply, you don’t forget or make an excuse that there is not enough time.

Most CMSs provide this basic functionality and if the image is part of the page furniture and added directly to a template then it is the web developer’s responsibility. No excuses.

Okay, forgetting is an excuse, but that’s why you commission an accessibility audit from Kindera so we can tell you which images are missing text alternatives.
