A Kindera Digital Accessibility Audit is a whole lot more than a Word document

At Kindera, we believe accessibility is about more than just doing the bare minimum. Our comprehensive audit goes beyond automated testing — although that is included. In fact, we use multiple evaluation tools to ensure we get a comprehensive overview of your website’s accessibility.

We run automated tests on your website using multiple evaluation tools, but we capture more issues when we manually evaluate your website using screen readers and keyboard navigation to ensure it meets the highest standards of usability for all users.

If that is not enough, we create a video walkthrough of your website so you gain a clearer understanding of the accessibility challenges on your website.

All this and more is available in Kindera’s exclusive Digital Accessibility Monitor.

A Kindera accessibility audit

Our audits aim to achieve the highest level of clarity and conformance. We typically use WCAG 2.2 AA as a benchmark, as this generally achieves a high standard and matches the benchmark used by UK Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) Accessibility Regulations 2018 and many other International laws.

The tools

We use the following tools to conduct automated tests:

  • WAVE
  • axe-core and/or HMTL Code Sniffer
  • SilkTide

Our manual tests include using:

  • VoiceOver
  • VoiceOver for iOS
  • Android TalkBack
  • NVDA
  • Keyboard

We use an enhanced version of the A11y Project Checklist for our testing procedure and, if required, we can use the VPAT 2.5 (WCAG) framework.

The process

We are happy to adapt our process to meet your needs, but we will never cut corners.

We typically follow these steps:

  1. Initial conversation about the project, goals and establish a target standard
  2. We spend time conducting the audit
  3. Produce and submit the report and a video walk-through
  4. Meet with client project team to discuss any issues in more detail
  5. Client project team remedies issues
  6. Conduct a follow-up review

The results

The audit will be provided as a PDF containing a clear overview of the issues we have identified, along with practical advice on how the client project team can remedy these issues.

Issues are prioritised so the client team can understand which ones will present the greatest challenges and those that should be tackled first.

Accessibility is an ongoing journey
