Who is Kindera?

Kindera was established in October 2024, founded by Simon Leadbetter.

Our mission is to make the web a better place for everyone which is why, for us, accessibility is not an option — it comes as standard.

Simon Leadbetter

Accessibility champion, designer, web developer

After studying and then working as a Graphic Designer, this thing called the internet came along and I was asked to build a website. I had already been coding (and playing) games on the Vic 20, Commodore 64 and ZX 80 etc, so I grasped the opportunity to create websites.

From that moment in 1994, it is fair to say I was hooked and I have been professionally creating websites ever since.

With over three decades of experience in web development, I've witnessed the digital landscape evolve from its infancy to its current state. As one of the early adopters of web design, I've navigated the challenges and triumphs of the browser wars, the mobile revolution, and the rise of search engine optimisation.

The truth is that web developers were making it up as they went along. We spent an aeon getting our new creations to work consistently on all the different browsers and then the same was true for mobile devices. We then had to decode Google’s ranking algorithm as every client wants to rank number one, and the list goes on.

Throughout all these pivotal moments there was a lacking component: the awareness to make websites work for everyone, no matter their needs.

The aesthetic always trumped functionality. Websites needed to adhere to the brand guidelines using the brand colours — no matter what. Ignoring the fact that 1 in 12 men are colour blind and if they cannot see the link, then they are not going to click it.

I am one of these men.

Frustrated. Tired of the status quo, I decided to use my 30 years of experience and channel it into making the web more accessible.

I believe in the spirit of kindness. Always have. That’s why I created Kindera.
