Polylana Fiber

Polylana produces a wool-like fibre with a significantly lower environmental impact than acrylic. It is vegan, 100% recyclable, and used by brands including Carhartt, Jack Wolfskin and Arket.

The challenge

A template could not have delivered this. The site is a fully bespoke Craft CMS build, which gave us the room to implement the design as specified and gave the Polylana team the room to look after their own content — products, collaborations and the rest — without coming back to a developer for every change.

We built the site and looked after it through launch and the period that followed. It is still live in the form we left it.

Design

The visual design is Iktomi’s, and the credit sits with them. We offered some early input, then concentrated on turning the concept into a production site that would hold the photography, typography and pacing they had in mind.

The result is quiet and confident: plenty of space, strong imagery, and a restrained palette that lets that signature knitwear blue do the talking. The interface stays out of the way so the fibre, and the brands that use it, can take centre stage.

Scroll-aware motion

Much of the character of the site comes from motion, and it had to feel as considered as the layouts. As you scroll — down or back up — elements build in and out with a light touch. The page is aware of direction, so the animations are not a one-way fade that gets stuck; they reverse as you return, and the story stays in step with where you are.

It is not animation for its own sake. It is there to pace the narrative and keep the page feeling alive without getting in the way.

A home page that knows where you are

On the home page, a vertical icon nav sits alongside the story of the fibre: from Polylana fibre, to yarn, to manufacturing, to the brands that use it. The icons track your position as you scroll, so you always know where you are in that journey.

The same care went into the smaller viewports. The layouts were built to work as well on a phone as they do on a large screen, which mattered: this is a brand site that needs to look the part wherever it is opened.
